Challengers

April 26, 2024

Just watched “Challengers”. It was a complex movie. I thought it would be a typical “Rudy” movie to motivate. A love triangle, that left me with “That was B.S.”, at the end. It was kinda of a love story. The tennis scenes looked good. Zendeya did an excellent job, and was believeable as a young confused athlete. She seems to take on the hard roles. and hits them out of the park. The two guys were also very good, both struck by the love bug. This movie left a bad taste in my mouth. Had a couple of slow parts. I give this movie 2-1/2 Ricks.

 The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

April 19, 2024

Watched “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” last night. I guess it’s a true story. It had the feel of an espionage novel. Had a great cast of stars. Cavill, Ritchson, Gonzales, Golding, Elwes, Olusanmoun, and “Ian Fleming”. I first thought it was a movie, pre-Kingsman, but I was wrong. This movie takes place during WWII. Structured storytelling is a great story. The imagery and filming were good. It was a fun movie, maybe too slow for kids. The director was Guy Ritchie. I give it 3-1/2 Ricks

Godzilla x Kong- The New Empire

April 10, 2024

We went and saw Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire movie. Typical story, but it moved fast. The graphics were great. Definitely reminded me of the Godzilla v Kong movies I used to watch as a kid. They did reference its Japanese roots. A few times it looked like men in monster suits, lol. It was a fun movie since I’ve followed this franchise my whole life. There were two young girls down the aisle with Dad, that appeared to love the action. I give it 3 Ricks.

Ghostbusters – Frozen Empire

March 22, 2024

We watched Ghostbusters in the IMAX theatre. Although the theatre wasn’t full on opening week, We thought the movie was fun and easy to watch. They advertised it being filmed for IMAX. It was really clear on the giant screen. Cool to see the old gang. The CGI was really good. I think we missed the last Ghostbuster movie, from last year. I might have to stream it. Fun for kids. I give it 4 Ricks.

 Dune: Part 2

March 7, 2024

We just watched Dune Part 2. It was EPIC. I loved the filming of this movie, I felt like I was in the desert. I never read the books, but the writing for a screenplay was Fantastic. You really can’t tell what is computer-generated. The characters popped out of the screen. Paul’s (Timothée Chalamet) character was believable, you could see him grow into a leader. His fight scene with Feyd-Rautha, (Austin Butler) who played in Elvis Presley’s movie, was so real. He was a scary man. Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya and Dave Bautista were also outstanding. New character Florence Pugh was good. This is a MUST-see, but you should watch Part 1 first. Spoiler alert, There should be another part to this saga. I give this 5 Ricks.

Dune: Part One -ReReview

March 3, 2024

On my review of Dune Part 1 on Nov 12, 2021, I gave it my worst review. So, In honor of going to watch Part 2 next Friday, I had to watch Part 1 over again. Rule number 1: Don’t eat a full meal before watching any movie, so I won’t fall asleep. I watched it on MAX.COM last night. I must have fallen asleep for the whole move last time. I didn’t remember any of it. So, It was freakin AWESOME!!. Timothée Chalamet (aka Willy Wonka) was epic. I loved Rebecca Fergeson (Mission Impossible) movies. Even Jason Mamoa (Aquaman) was awesome., Oscar Isaac and Josh Brolin had key parts. Zendaya had a small part in this one and will be a major character in Part 2. The imagery made it feel like I was there. I apologize for my first review. I can’t wait for Friday for Part 2. I really enjoyed the CGI images. I watched it at home with my earbuds on, so I got the full experience. I give this 5 Ricks.

Drive-Away Dolls

March 1, 2024

On Friday we watched “Drive-Away Dolls”. I needed a couple of days to process my thoughts. The movie was kinda weird, Not really an artsy movie or a real action movie. Seemed low budget, but it had appearances by Pedro Pascual, Matt Damon, and Mylie Cyrus. There were these two main characters in the picture below, plus another. It is a rated “R” movie with adult content. When I left the theatre, I wanted my 1-1/2 hrs back. I’m glad we didn’t pay for it. I give it 1-1/2 Ricks.

 Land of Bad

February 23, 2024

Watched “Land of Bad” last night. Wow… Wow, what a movie. Plenty of action. Showcases some of the US military technology. This was a mission to retrieve a person of value. Lots of adult situations and blood. Although not a war, it still shows what our men in the field do. Not at all for younger kids. Hemsworth was awesome. Russell Crowe was awesome, but I kept flashing back and thinking it was John Goodman (Rosanne), but I know he lost weight. I was so tense at the end of the movie. We needed to eat something to calm us down. I give this 4 Ricks.

Madame Web

February 16, 2024

We just watched Madame Web. For a Marvel movie, this one was just OK. At first, I thought the cast was wrong, but then I realized it wasn’t made by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was a SONY production. The story was good, mostly about Dakota Johnson’s character “Madame Web” and the developing story. Sydney Sweeny, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor didn’t really get to evolve their spider characters… yet. I’m sure this was to lay some foundation for the next movie. The movie didn’t seem as smooth as an MCU movie. You don’t need to say til the end for any easter eggs. I give this movie 3 Ricks.

Lisa Frankenstein

February 9, 2021

We watched Lisa Frankenstein the other day. Set in 1980’s. Lisa a troubled child, spends her free time at the cemetary. She falls in love with a dead guy. Movie was kinda silly. Music was good 80’s music. They picked a good cast. Cole Sprouse from the Disney channel was the love interest. He didn’t have much to say. The lead girl was pretty good. 80’s love story, not a “Taylor’s Version”. I give it 2-1/2 Ricks

Argylle

February 2, 2024

Last night we watched Argyle. It started off fast. That Dua Lipa is going to be a movie star. It was a movie in a book. Then turned quirky. Bryce Dallas Howard was a writer when the movie changed. Henry Cavill and John Cena were good. Henry (superman) was able to pull off the high top and a mullett and helicopter dance move. I was entertained at the end. As we walked out, everyone kept saying they had mixed feelings. The movie production was awesome. I would only watch it again for Dua Lipa, which was only at the beginning. That would save lots of time. I give it 3 Ricks.

I.S.S.

January 19, 2024

We watched I.S.S movie last night. Just to clarify, I am a space guy, grew up when we landed on the moon. The movie was claustrophobic as it should be, being inside a floating tin can. I liked how everything seemed to float around as it should. The movie was only 1hr 35mins. The story once revealing itself, ended the story abruptly. Thank God, I wanted out of there. To me, this is a must NOT see movie. Belongs in the Reuben H. Fleet museum. I give it 2 Ricks, just because it was in space.

 The Beekeeper

January 12, 2024

I had a foot-long Subway The Beast. I ate it before the movie. Just came back from watching The BeeKeeper with Jason Statham. If you like action and a story, This is the movie. What’s wrong vs Right. Glad there are guys around like the BeeKeeper. Lots of action. Sorry, some good guys don’t make it, but a lot of bad guys die. I hate to admit but I like all the movies that he’s in. I didn’t like the way it ended, but it feels like a sequel is next. I give this 4 Ricks.

Anyone But You

January 12, 2024

The other day we saw Anyone but you, a RomCom. It was better than I thought I would like. Glen Powell was in TopGun Maverick, and I’ve never seen Sydney Sweeney. Their on-screen chemistry was good. He was so funny, and she was cute and all, but they seem her boobs, ok maybe just the cleavage, were the focal point in some of the scenes, or maybe I was just looking at them. lol. This could be a Hallmark movie. Beautiful views of Sidney, Australia. I have to admit, I liked it. Couples night out. I give it 3-1/2 Ricks.
